At first, Aos was thought to be a powerful weapon from the Age of Ash. Messic of Samyl took a contingent of fireborn into Old Menadora to retrieve it. As it turned out, Aos was a ‘he’, rather than an ‘it.’ The last Guardian of Menadora, Aos was defeated by Gorian in the last days of the slave rebellion. Unable to be killed, Gorian pinned Aos to the ground of Menadora’s central plaza, the divine power of his blade keeping the Kairnalla eternally incapacitated. Behram Gage and his men pulled the blade free, reanimating Aos. He then killed Messic, took Gorian’s blade, and departed from Kenafiir, re-energizing Old Menadora in the process.
Possessing god-like powers, Aos Kilmair was one of the most powerful Kairnalla and supposedly was several centuries old when the rebellion consigned his people to extinction. Gerard reveals that Aos had always opposed slavery, believing that the destiny of the Kairnalla was there’s alone and the inclusion of other peoples could only add instability to their path. Additionally, he (and his family before him) was a strong believer that the Kairnalla were guests on Kenafiir and that all precautions should be taken to ensure the safety of the world and of the Quixix.
